2007-2008 Previous Work |
- This committee was first formed in Spring 2007, as the brainchild of the new GSS President, Kevin Speer.
- November 6 - Committee meets to review mentoring policies of other instiutions and discuss possible projects for this year. Craig Rudick elected chair. Minutes.
- November 19 - Committee decides to focus exclusively on creating a survey for grad students and drafting handbooks, until these projects are completed. Committee splits into two subcommittees: one to create the survey and one to draft the handbook. Minutes.
- December 3 - Committee meets to discuss progress. Sorry, no minutes.
- December 18 - Committee meets to assemble draft handbook. After a meeting with John Clochesy, Chair of the Faculty Senate Graduate Studies Committee, the timeline is revised substantially to reflect a later deadline.
- January 14 - Survey completed and distributed to graduate students (we had over 200 responses in the first 12 hours!).
- January 17 - draft of handbook put online for grad student review. Drafts are distributed for faculty/administration review.
- January 24 - Special Session of GSS GA to discuss handbooks.
- February 28 - Final drafts of handbooks posted for grad student review
- March 6 - Vote of endorsement of handbooks at GSS GA
- March-April - Handbooks are approved and adopted by Faculty Senate Graduate Studies Committee.

Future Work |
Spring 2009 and beyond - Drafting and implementing handbooks is simply the first step in improving graduate student mentoring. The committee will use the experience gained and enthusiasm generated by the handbooks to push for further improvements in graduate student mentoring at Case.
