GSS Activities Committee Meeting 9/30/08 4pm

Grad Night Out
- First or Second Friday/Saturday of November
- The Winking Lizard Lakewood
- People liked it, seemed to work
- Smaller plates, regulate the food. Food upstairs and downstairs
- Reduce to 1 bus or eliminate the bus.
- Prefer the West side over the East side
- Christa looked up the Corner Alley downtown
- expensive: appetizer/drinks for 200: $7000
- Discussion about Thursday vs Friday - The committee seemed to reason that people make other plans for the weekend on Fridays, so a Thursday might work better.

Happy Hour
- Maritza went to the Spot: Grad Students won\'t be able to find it
- Jolly Scholar - centrally located, will do specials, can buy keg, 25 cent wings
- Price for a keg $100-$150
- On Thursdays 4-6
- Would like to ultimately include professional schools. Can work out the money details w! ith them once we get the event started

- Maritza - Finding out more cost details and coming up with budget.

END OF THE YEAR UPDATE: Very large committee this year – at its height had nine members – all of whom contributed to its success this year
Activities sponsored or co-sponsored:  Welcome Back BBQ, Case at the Jake (150 participants), Grad Night Out at the Winking Lizard (between 150-200 participants), Cavs Game with Court of Dreams (320 participants), Jorge Cham lecture, End of the year BBQ (~200 participants)

Update from May 2007

This is a standing committee of the GSS to organize and plan all the events (charitable, social, fun, PFF/PFP) of the academic year.  The past year was a great success with the harvest for hunger campaign and the grad night out at Jillians. Also, the spring semester was ended with a large BBQ sponsored by GSS with attendees in number potentially near 250.

The committee meets irregularly as the members decide to plan and coordinate the events.  Profesional Devlopment was converted from it’s own committee to a subcommittee of activities, as outlined below.
