END OF THE YEAR UPDATE:
1)Strategic Planning: At the core of strategic planning for graduate studies is the goal to Enrich and Advance Graduate Education: Grow High-Quality Graduate Programs in CSE’s High-Priority Research Areas and Create Programs for High-Demand Professional Degrees. The strategies that the committee has identified to realize these goals are:
1. Grow and Sustain World-Class Graduate Research Programs.
2. Provide High-Impact and Quality Professional Programs.
3. Recruit Diverse Top-Tier Graduate Students.
The GSC (CSE Graduate Studies Committee) proposes a clear emphasis on multidisciplinary research and on removing obstacles hindering such research. The strategic plan should accommodate differences between the individual departments.
2)Graduate Fellowships: To increase the number of graduate students supported by fellowships, the GSC proposes:
- Designation of an administrative designated position for facilitating and assisting graduate students students and faculty to search out and compose applications for fellowships and grants
- Reallocation of effort to attain faculty-driven training grants that support groups of students.
3) Graduate Student Recruiting:
Re-examination of the Teaching Assistant (TA) system and Case Prime Fellowships will be vital to creating a funding safety net needed to acquire and retain top talent. Additionally, the GSC has reviewed innovative approaches to graduate student recruiting in several departments |
