2007-2008

END OF THE YEAR UPDATE: An update of parking activities since the last meeting 1.5+ years ago was covered.  Many lots have security officers and many CCTV cameras have been installed and will continue to be installed around campus.  A few issues with current facilities were brought up and those issues will be investigated.  Additionally, the new residential student parking program was discussed.  While this does not largely pertain to graduate students, weekend and night parking in facilities was brought up and currently a night/weekend pass is available for a  fee.  Current demand and usage of facilities limits the possibility of removing the fee for night/weekend parking.  The new T2 computer parking system was briefly discussed and will be continued to be utilized further to improve parking waitlist turnover and other parking issues.  The old system was quite antiquated and the new system is ahead oh many other university systems.  Next, the issue of monthly billing for graduate students was brought up.  Currently, there are 2 limitations to the system: payroll and how parking is issued to grad students.  Payroll of students and staff are on separate systems, but will hopefully be changed in the future with the new ERP/HCM/SIS system.  Access services will have to discuss another method to allocate graduate students passing since the current semester system might cause issues with billing and the high turnover might preclude the possibility of monthly billing.  Next, a discussion of carpooling and further development of web resources to support increased carpooling was started.  Access Services does not have the budget or manpower to launch such an effort.  It was suggested to contact the Linda Robson in the Sustainability office to coordinate what would be useful for graduate students as well as the whole campus.  Parking rates for next year were presented with a 4% increase in price which is standard for peers.  Additionally, it should be known that repeat offenders of parking will be booted and towed if you have many outstanding tickets.  Lastly, in response to concerns about not being able to get a parking pass mailed to you, I was told that the reason is the new magnetic machines that the Postal Service destroy the cards and therefore limit the ability to use the mail to distribute passes.
